Client: “It’s too small. Can we make it a half pixel bigger?”

In the advertising industry, it is only natural that you run into clients who don’t see eye to eye with you.

Clients from Hell is a website compiled of various horror stories of dealing with unruly clients. Clients who have ridiculous deadlines, insurmountable requests, and clients who just don’t clue of what they want. Here are a couple gems that were submitted:

—“That photograph looks too unrealistic, can you add more reality?”

—We were building a website for a client that has a preschool and sells curriculum. Just before we went live, they called up and asked us to remove the word “school” from all the page titles and URLs. I asked why. They responded:
“We heard if the gays find out we have a preschool, they can force us to teach the children to be gay. We think its safest if nobody can see that we’re a school. And we don’t want to come up on any Google searches dealing with ‘school.’”
—Trying to wrap up a design for a client, he asked how big the graphical header was.
“700 pixels wide” I replied.

“It’s too small.  Can we make it a half pixel bigger?”

I roll my eyes epically on my end and them send him the exact same comp image back.  “Here you go”

“Perfect!”.

—“I don’t want to pay for the red words on my website, can you use less red so that I can get a discount?”

—”I knew I liked your work from the moment I saw your logo. So we need a logo, can we just use yours, but replace your company name with ours?

—I know you said it would take three weeks but I’ve just looked at my budget and I can’t pay you after today – so you need to finish everything by 5pm

We’re not happy with the concept you sent over, as a result we don’t feel we should have to pay for it. Can you please send over the design so far as a word document so we can change it ourselves.
