The Hoover Windtunnel Air Challenge
This week Tattoo ran a side-by-side test to see which was better: the $188 Hoover Windtunnel Air or the $399 Dyson DC 24. Both vacuums use a similar Cyclonic Filtration Technology. Hoover, however, has something that no other vacuum on the market can touch: Patented WindTunnel Technology.
We compared the two models on a pre-cleaned test-rug that we divided down the middle. Exactly one cup of dirt and one cup of sand was poured onto each half and then rubbed in, so that real test of their cleaning power could begin. In a consistent pattern, we vacuumed one side with the Dyson DC 24 and the other with the Hoover Windtunnel Air. After measuring how much was picked up, one vacuum clearly won the Challenge.
The Windtunnel Air won! The Hoover picked up practically the whole 2 cups and the Dyson collected 1.75 cups. But as if those results weren’t conclusive enough, we decided to run another test. We swapped models and vacuumed opposite sides of the test-rug to see if either vacuum could pick up what the other had missed.
The Hoover won again! It picked up 3 tablespoons that the DC 24 had previously missed, while the Dyson only picked up about a teaspoon of dirt on the Hoover’s original side. With those results, the Challenge was over and the Windtunnel Air trumped its $400 competition. Check back later to see the footage!

I actually performed a similar test (albeit non-scientifically), only I pitted a newly purchased Windtunnel Air against my Dyson DC25 blueprint model. I looked at these at Wal-Mart on quite a few occasions, and decided to jump the gun and buy one for its comparably low price to see how it would perform against my current vacuum….and not only did the $188 Hoover outperform the $530 Dyson, I came away totally impressed at how out-engineered the Hoover was compared to the Dyson. Features like an on-board add-on extension hose, adjustable handle height, large debris airway channels, super low profile cleaning head, lightweight (the box claims 12 lbs, and I believe it), and a much longer cord compared to the Dyson, topped off with a bargain basement low price makes this a clear choice for a high performance bagless vacuum.
I am a huge Hoover fan and have one of their windtunnels myself. I really enjoyed reading this short article about the competition and it made my day learning that the hoover windtunnel won the challenge. Thanks for the great review.
